MY Gaya Month (MGM), peaked on the 15th and 16th of October when the two-day fashion runway featured the shining creations of 20 local designer brands showcasing the local roots and creative imagination of Malaysian products.
The campaign aims to raise awareness about the high quality of local products that can compete with international brands, encourage local product sales for national sustainability, and create new job opportunities.
“Our aim is to ensure that despite this being a one-month campaign, the love for Malaysian-made products continues long after this time period and is constantly instilled amongst all Malaysians,” said Malaysian Bumiputra Designer Association (MBDA) President, Rasta Rashid.
The event is divided into three sections: brand emporiums featuring all 20 participating brands, a forum, and fashion runways. The campaign’s final and ultimate segment, the two-day fashion runways, took place over the weekend at Fahrenheit88, featuring the following 20 local designer brands.
One of the brands highlighted is Masterpiece by Masrina Abdullah, a brand that aspires to capture the interest of batik lovers and appreciators by focusing on elegant simplicity, flowy and comfy patterns. Meanwhile, Rebel, founded by now-16-year-old designer Ashlyn Nisha Gurupatham, is a non-profit social enterprise that aims to give teenagers more freedom to express themselves.
MGM is a month-long fashion taking place at Fahrenheit 88 from October 6 to November 10, coordinated by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs(KPDNHEP) and Kempen Beli Barangan Malaysia (KBBM).
The fashion emporium showcasing all 20 participating designers is ongoing at Atrium, Ground Floor, Fahrenheit88 Mall, Jalan Bukit Bintang until 10 November 2022.
