It’s the first Monday in May again, which means that it’s the most wonderful time of the year for the fashion girlies – the Met Gala! Every year, renowned celebrities, stylists, and designers gather at the Met, AKA the Metropolitan Museum of Art, to raise funds for its Costume Institute. This year, the gala’s main exhibition is named “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”, which is the overall concept of the event, and guests are encouraged to honour the dress code, this year being “Garden of Time”. Co-chaired by Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth, we’re happy to report that most of the guests stuck to the dress code, with some particular stunners that truly gagged us all.

Best Dressed Celebrities at The Met Gala 2024 Red Carpet

1. Tyla in Balmain

It’s babygirl’s first Met, and boy, did she come for the kill. Draped in a moulded gown by Balmain, Tyla looks ethereal as she pays homage to the sands of time, even holding an hourglass. The wet hair, minimal accessories, even sand on the shoulder to complete the look – she really said she’s the new fashion girlie in Hollywood.

2. Wisdom Kaye in Robert Wun

THIS is why Anna Wintour should really invite more people who are actually interested in fashion to come to the Gala. Wisdom Kaye, who rose to stardom after posting Tik Toks of his incredible fashion prowess, turned heads in a custom Robert Wun suit. The burnt details? We love to see it.

3. Emma Chamberlain in Jean Paul Gaultier

Emma Chamberlain, special correspondent for Vogue for the second year running, ate and left no crumbs. This custom dress by Jean Paul Gaultier is incredible from every single angle, and the makeup, hair, and accessories just brought the ensemble to a whole new level.

4. Amelia Gray in Undercover

That’s right; Amelia Gray understood the assignment and wore the garment that everybody had hoped to see on steps of the Met. First created by Jun Takahashi for Undercover SS24, this terrarium-inspired dress literally lit the Met Gala. We’re not huge fans of the hair tucked into the necklace (à la Purple Hearts, anyone?) or the boring gold platforms, but the dress completely makes up for it.

5. Mona Patel in Iris Van Herpen

Mona Patel had the internet in frenzy asking “Who is she?” when she graced the red carpet and our screens in a breathtaking Iris Van Herpen ensemble, whose works are known to be sculptural. Styled by none other than Law Roach himself, this Indian business mogul turned heads as the butterflies on her arms actually moved!

6. Harris Reed in Harris Reed

No, this is not Florence Welch. This stunner is actually Harris Reed wearing, well, Harris Reed. Wearing your own show-stopping creation to the Met Gala? What a flex.

7. Lana Del Ray in Alexander McQueen

MOTHER. Lana Del Ray returns to the iconic steps of the Met in Alexander McQueen, referencing the legendary designer’s “look #47” from FW 2006 collection. The branch headpiece? Iconic. The singular rose in her hand? Perfection.

8. Anok Yai in Swarovski

Anok Yai never fails to deliver, and this year was no different. The model donned an embellished catsuit made by Swarovski, featured 98,000 individual crystals and becoming water herself. Serving face and body, we are humbly gagged.

9. Alia Bhatt in Sabyasachi

Listen, we love a queen who can wear a cultural piece that fits perfectly to theme, and leave everyone in the dust. This custom masterpiece by Sabyasachi had an amazing 23-foot train that draped beautifully across the steps, which took 163 artisans 1,965 hours to make. The details and the drama of it all makes it oh so worth it.

10. Elle Fanning in Balmain

“Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” would not have been complete without Sleeping Beauty herself, Elle Fanning. Draped in a custom Balmain organza bustier gown, hand-covered with resin for a trompe l’oeil glass effect and water birds atop her shoulders, we could not have asked for more.

11. Dan Levy in Loewe

Make all the memes you want about this look, but we said no boring suits at the Gala, and Dan Levy understood the assignment. Serving looks whilst still being completely on theme, this was a controversial look, but we think Dan ate in this.

12. Zendaya in Maison Margiela and Givenchy

Are we even surprised that Zendaya enthralled us all by not serving in one look on the red carpet, but two? Her first look of the night was a show-stopping blue and green custom Margiela gown, and went back to the carpet in a vintage black SS 19996 Givenchy couture gown. Everybody say thank you Z and Law.
