Gucci and Supreme are both extremely well-known brands in the fashion industry. Albeit, they may come from two ends of the spectrum. While Gucci is synonymous with high fashion, Supreme is a household name in street fashion. The one thing we all can agree on about these two fashion brands, however, is that they are both expensive. Despite the price of even the smallest accessories, most people would pay to get their hands on Gucci and Supreme. In other words, these two brands can also be compared as old money vs new money. Seeing as how Gucci has been around much longer than Supreme, which brand do you prefer? Which, do you think is more superior? Let’s take a look, shall we?

Gucci Gang

For over a century, Gucci has been at the forefront of the fashion industry. It has made its name as one of the most expensive and finest brands on the market. Gucci’s price-per-product value alone, is significantly higher than Supreme’s. If you are comparing Gucci VS Supreme, just know this – a new Supreme tee would only cost you RM200, while a Gucci shirt might cost you RM1,000.

Gucci was founded back in 1921, Florence, Italy. Gucci also has an estimated net worth of around $17 billion dollars. With 73 years apart, it seems that the battle between Gucci VS Supreme has its answer. But, Supreme comes in with an estimated net worth of around $1 billion dollars compared to Gucci.

Supreme High Court

Although Supreme came to be in 1994, it is still considerably new in the fashion industry. Compared to industry leaders such as Prada, Hermes and Gucci, Supreme is an extremely young brand. Despite all that, we’ve seen Supreme grow in a short amount of time.

Supreme was initially a skateboarding brand. Supreme has always been a unique business as they used to permit skateboarders to ride around inside the store. Although the uptake was slow, Supreme later opened up around capital hubs like Tokyo, Paris and London. By 2020, most of Supreme’s business took place online and they had a unique business model too. Dropping new items almost every Thursday and Saturday for the Japanese market.

Since the minds behind Supreme relied on vibrant, bright artistry designs heavily, most of their products were limited in stock. As almost every Supreme product was created with exclusivity in mind, it became one of the brands main drives of commercial and financial success. Since people became aware that Supreme products were scarce,  Supreme also started selling out dramatically fast. This fact pushed up the aftermarket value of their merchandise quickly too.

But if you pose the question Gucci VS Supreme, you’ll find out that Supreme isn’t as expensive as these luxury brands. In fact, Supreme has even previously collaborated with Gucci and Louis Vuitton. Leading to a spike in the prices of their products. Otherwise, Supreme is quite an affordable branded fashion brand. Some of its clothing even has the highest resale value out of any brand within the industry.

Gucci VS Supreme The North Face Collab

Recently, both Gucci and Supreme have collaborated with iconic outdoor clothing company – The North Face. Both these collaborations featured limited-edition technical outerwear and accessories. So, if you own any of these special editions, it automatically gives you a card to flex. But what happens when a Gucci fan and a Supreme fan meet? Gucci VS Supreme starts again and we beg the question: which collab slaps?

Gucci X The North Face, on the other hand, features a vibrant collection that reflects the 90s. Previously, the two have partnered up to create the much-hyped collection that was drenched in ’70s nostalgia. This time, they’ve embraced some of The North Face’s bestselling styles from the 90s. Featuring the Nuptse Vest and Jacket. Even though Gucci has painted The North Face in their signature vintage monogram and florals, it threw in a forest print to match. Some of the jackets feature a colour-blocked style that is bright and loud. What’s more, is that you’ll find their footwear hard to miss. Go for the bold orange hiking boots, or super-soft wool slides.

The North Face and Supreme actually go way back. The two have previously collaborated on many collections since 2007. On resale platforms, those collections have aged like fine wine. For Fall/Winter 2021, the duo seems to have produced their best so far. The collab features a grungy bleached denim print on most of The North Face’s staples such as the Fleece Jacket, Nuptse Jacket, Mountain Pant and Mountain Jacket. Although streetwear fans might not appreciate these pieces, techwear enthusiasts will happily obsess over them. What’s more, this collab features functional accessories that are collectable – the padded 700-Fill Down Scarf and Sleeping Bag.

Old Money VS New Money

It all comes down to personal preference and style. After all, Gucci and Supreme cater to different markets. Supreme caters to a demographic of young adults and teenagers. Gucci caters mostly to the elite and luxury fashionistas. While the two offer quite a similar range of products, they still have two completely different styles. Where one is casual, the other is classic. Give your own take and let us know in the comments below!
