All throughout 2023, one question has been at the forefront of the minds of every fashion and celebrity enthusiast: Where on earth is the new generation supermodel, Bella Hadid?
Of course, everyone came to learn later that the 27-year-old was undergoing intense treatment for her Lyme disease. Hadid’s supermodel sister, 28-year-old Gigi Hadid, set the record straight with an Instagram post about her younger sister’s tough journey battling the bacterial infection. Hadid’s mother and brother, Yolanda and Anwar Hadid, are also plagued by the disease.
Lyme disease is an infectious illness caused by the bacterium Borrelia Burgdorferi. This bacteria is transmitted through the bite of infected ticks. The symptoms of Lyme disease include fever, fatigue, and a distinctive circular rash. Ouch.
The supermodel underwent 100+ days of intensive treatments. Due to this, Hadid took a step back from her modelling career in early 2023 to focus on rest and healing—as she should. This explains why she was absent all throughout last year’s fashion month.
A testament to how sorely missed she was: the public mistook her for another model named Dalton Dubois during Diesel’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection at Milan Fashion Week last year. Hadid’s “comeback” trended worldwide on social media before people realised it was a false alarm. What a bummer.
But fret not. It seems that Hadid is finally ready to make her grand comeback this year.
For her first 2024 magazine cover, Bella Hadid graces the front of Perfect Magazine. According to Perfect’s Instagram, the American-born Palestinian model was very hands-on in the creative process, having selected the creative team behind the shoot herself. Hadid even helped to direct in the studio.
Captured through the lens of photographer Bryce Anderson and styled by Hadid’s longtime collaborator Katie Grand, the shoot draws inspiration from a 1978 image of singer Debbie Harry. In the original picture, Harry wore a dress made from a poster she had torn from the venue’s exterior wall while performing.
That explains the custom Corbin Shaw poster that says, “Absolutely nothing. Nothing. At all.” that the model is “wearing” in the magazine cover. A creative ode to a legend.
Besides the stunning first look, Perfect Magazine released three more covers starring Bella Hadid. One of the covers was in black and white to compliment Hadid wearing a retro look with calf-high boots. The next two covers featured Hadid in pink and white t-shirts made by Shaw. We are definitely “Screaming in Perfect English” at these photographs.
Hadid shared the covers on her Instagram with the heartfelt caption, “Back in action. Love you”. If that isn’t a confirmation that the supermodel has returned to stun the runways and covers of 2024, we don’t know what is. Personally, we can’t wait to see more of Bella Hadid.
