Ah, the Ramadhan buffet. We train all year to gorge ourselves as effectively as we can; it’s like the eating Olympics. We train mentally for the marathon of mastication while honing our forks and stretching our stomachs. And the buildup to the holy month is like anticipating the arrival of a long-lost friend who not only delivers excellent food but also a sense of fellowship and spiritual renewal. We’ll soon be breaking our fasts with all the finesse and delicacy of a pack of ravenous hyenas, so let the countdown begin.

With the holy month approaching, we’ve begun planning the best spots to have our buka puasa. We don’t have to look far though because The RuMa Hotel and Residences have begun preparing for the festivities with a beautifully traditional buffet to inspire and indulge your taste buds. There’s really nothing to complain about when it comes to our Traditional Malaysian cuisine!

Hidangan Tradisi: Edisi SANTAI

In creating the dishes, Chef Mohammad Rizuwan, Chef de Cuisine of Production Kitchen at The RuMa Hotel and Residences, recalls the events that influenced his palate and culinary skills while drawing inspiration from the flavours of his youth.

He states, “Ramadhan is a time for connection with all that we hold dear: our values, our community, our family and our roots. I learned to cook from my mother and to me, the festive season will always bring back the flavours of ulam-ulaman kampung—herbs like pucuk paku, daun selom and jantung pisang grown in our own backyard that my mother and I would pick and prepare for buka. These traditional preparations will always take me back to my childhood—a reminder of the importance of family and of sharing during this special time.”

SANTAI’s Ramadhan buffet is the culinary equivalent of a superhero team-up, with each dish bringing its own distinct strength to the table. From the flavorful strength of daging serunding and ayam rendang, to the nimble agility of lemang and satay, this buffet has it all. But don’t let the classic flavours fool you – there are some modern tweaks here, such the salmon bakar and slipper lobster percik. And if you’re feeling nostalgic, the ulam-ulaman and kerabu will send you back in time faster than a DeLorean. Finish it all off with a durian strudel and pandan crème brûlée, and you’ll be feeling fulfilled, and ready to take on the world (or at least the dessert table).

Happening from the 28th March to 16th April 2023, the buffet will be available daily from 6:30PM and is priced at MYR 218 nett per nett. A 20% discount is offered via pre-purchase before 31 March 2023 here. A reservation made at least two days in advance is required to enjoy this promotion, and will not be applicable for walk-ins. For reservations and inquiries, please call +603 2778 0614.

Eid Al-Fitr Delicacies

What better way to stay in touch with loved ones than by sending them a beautifully packaged box of sweets? The Ramadhan Take Away Box contains Kuih bunga dahlia, which represents compassion and beauty, peanut biscuits, which desire for longevity and good health, pandan sable, which represents care and affection, or chocolate chip cookies, which wish for a lovely and happy life.

A packet of classy sampul raya and a choice of three different dates are included in every box of cookies. The cost of each box of these holiday treats is MYR128.
