Who’s excited about the new Batman movie? We know we are! For those that haven’t watched it on the big screens, fret not! This is a completely spoiler-free all you need to know before you watch The Batman. This time around, we’ve got a new Batman on the streets. Long gone are Christian Bale and Ben Affleck as our brooding superheroes. This time, we are welcoming Robert Pattinson to the franchise! After so many Batman movies, you’d think that they’d run out of movies and tv shows to produce by now.

But of course, comics have proved us wrong again as there can never be too much source material when it comes to superhero movies! Besides, it’s all fantasy anyway, so who’s to say they can’t just come up with a whole new plotline unrelated to the comics! Although, DC fans might not be too pleased with that. So, let’s take a look at The new Batman movie, its cast and just how long is the runtime.

The Batman Movie

In this new addition to the franchise, we return to Gotham City as Batman ventures into the city’s underworld. This time around, a sadistic killer is leaving behind a trail of cryptic clues. As Batman tries to solve this mystery and catch the killer, all the evidence starts leading a little too close to home. The scale of this villain’s plan is also becoming clearer and clearer. Thus, Batman must forge new allies, and relationships to unmask the killer. Bringing justice to the corruption and abuse of power that has long since polluted the city of Gotham.

The Batman Cast

Whenever a new Batman movie is released, we are always introduced to a new set of cast. For this new movie, we also have a new Batman! Robert Pattinson has taken up the role of portraying Bruce Wayne this time around. Initially, Robert Pattinson received some backlash over his casting. Audiences and fans didn’t take kindly to the fact that Robert Pattinson was cast as Batman before the film was released. Pattinson said that “it was less vitriolic than I was expecting”. After its release, however, the public came to love the new Batman more and more.

Alongside Pattinson, we also have Zoë Kravitz playing Catwoman, who was previously portrayed by many great actresses including Anne Hathaway in The Dark Knight Rises. Kravitz is also the perfect fit for the iconic character and seductress that is Catwoman. Representing feminine power, Kravitz is just as excited as us to bring Catwoman to life.

The Riddler is also back in this new Batman instalment and is being portrayed by Paul Dano. Cast back in October of 2019, Dano joined the cast as our trickster villain after Jonah Hill couldn’t reach a deal for the character. The Riddler’s story in The Batman has been kept under wraps so far, but internet sleuths have speculated that our villain will be drawing inspiration from the Zodiac Killer.

The Penguin and Commissioner Gordon are also back and portrayed by Colin Farrell and Jeffery Wright. Although The Penguin won’t have too large of a role, Farrell thoroughly enjoyed his presence in the film. Jeffery Wright will also be bringing Commissioner Gordon to the screen as a man concerned with justice. We can’t wait how he and The Batman will interact in this new Batman movie.

Lastly, we can’t forget about our most beloved character, Alfred. Portrayed by Andy Serkis, he will be donning a British accent for the new Batman movie. This film will take a deeper dive into the emotional connection between Alfred and Bruce.

What You Need To Know

This new Batman movie will most certainly be darker than its predecessors. Releasing on March 4, 2022, it is also NOT a part of the DCEU. Director Matt Reeves intends for this new Batman to be set in a different cinematic universe and stand on its own. So, it is completely unrelated to the previous DC movies such as Justice League, Man of Steel, the upcoming Aquaman and Man of Steel. But of course, there might be opportunities for crossovers happening in the future. But for now, it seems that Robert Pattinson’s Batman will be in a world of its own, just as  Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker was.

For moviegoers excited to watch this new movie, the runtime for it is approximately 2 hours and 55 minutes long. Having a total runtime of almost 3 hours. Cutting it close to Zack Snyder’s Justice League movie, which was 4 hours long. This 3-hour long movie also makes it the longest Batman movie that has been made thus far. So if you want to watch it in the theatres, we’d suggest not drinking too many liquids. Lest you have to run to the toilet at the most exciting part!
