We’re pretty sure we can all agree that luxury fashion has become way too industrialised. So much so that it’s badly affecting the environment. If you think the same way we do, then you will be excited to know that Chloé, a well-known fashion brand has decided to take a step back. This season, Chloé is introducing Chloé Craft. Chloé Craft aims to pioneer new levels of traceability and transparency when it comes to the fashion industry. In this new collection, the techniques used by Chloe cannot be mimicked by machinery. They can only mastered by the human hand, which cleverly intrigues guests. The overall collection is naturally low impact and incorporates more recycled materials while still preserving the brand’s quality. Curious to know more? Contents
Ready-To-Wear
The Chloé Spring-Summer 2022 is limiting the environmental impact by incorporating more lower impact materials. This collection actually features up to 58% of low-impact materials, as compared to 55% in Spring 2022 and 40% in Winter 2021. That’s an incredible step-up and we can’t be more excited!
If you’re wondering, where do these low-impact materials come from? Well, just to give you an example, more than 50% of the wool used by Chloé comes from a farm that respects animal welfare and maintains soil health. Highlights Of The Ready-To-Wear Collection:
The metal accessories featured in the collection’s dresses actually come from a line of discontinued jewellery findings and components.
This dress highlights various shades of vegetable-based blue dye. Designers hand painted these stripes onto cashmere and voile.
New garments feature leftover fabrics. These fabrics are taken from previous collections before shredding and knotting them by hand.
The Maison’s newest Creative Director Gabriela’s drawings come to life with patched hand-cut vegetable-dyed leather.
Multicolor hand-crocheted scallops cover the surface of a signature winged- silhouette knitted dress.
Bags
In the new Chloé Spring-Summer 2022, a variety of bags made an entrance, and we’re here to introduce you to all of them.
Firstly, the Kattie bag is a convertible crossbody bag and clutch. Featuring an artisanal hand-sewn blanket stitch, the bag makes an unforgettable appearance in the Chloé Spring-Summer 2022 show. Kattie bag also features metal bracelet closures that are handwoven and wrapped with leather or inlaid with wood.
Another bag that also showcases the sophisticated hand-applied blanket stitch around its edges is the Lawson bag. This fully leather bucket-shaped bag is also features conscious vegetable dye.
A memorable piece from the show is this round Lolla bag, knit by hand. The piece also highlights the intricate details of braide handles made by hand. Reimagining the Edith bag, the bag features whip-stitching leather ribbon around its edges for an artisanal touch.
Footwear
This season, Chloé designed the Nama Sneaker, a pair that serves a purpose in lowering environmental impact. The Nama Sneaker emits 35% fewer greenhouse gases and consumes 80% less water than the previous Sonnie sneaker.
Jewellery and Accessories
With the idea of showcasing the beauty of nature and its materials, Chloé decided to intricately upcycle stones and shells into the jewellery collection. Chloé’s Larry line of necklaces also uses discontinued Chloé crepe de chine and leather, proving recycled materials deserve the spotlight.
Applying Chloé’s craft techniques, the statement chandelier earrings says it all at the show. The earrings feature wrapped leftover leather and cords around carefully assembled shells and metal findings.
The Chloé Spring-Summer 2022 collection also highlights leather bracelets in contrasting multicolor tones of the season. These bracelets reflect the various stitching, braiding, and wrapping techniques Chloé has crafted for this collection.
But that’s not all, Chloé also continues experimentation with ceramics. Their signature circular earrings evidently shows this, as they deeply glaze in the season’s earthy tones.
Reducing Environmental Impact At The Chloé Spring-Summer 2022 Show
The Chloé Spring-Summer 2022 Runway Show took place at the edge of the Seine River in France. With beautiful clear skies and fresh air, the show continued to stay in line with the collection of lowering environmental impact throughout.
One of the Chloé Spring-Summer 2022 Runway Show’s efforts in lowering environmental impact was using upcycled cushions. Cushions that guests sat on throughout the show were made from Chloé fabric remnants – an incredible way to reduce waste.
Aside from that, all catering leftovers at the show will also be donated to Linkee. Linkee is a Paris-based NGO fighting against food waste. In this collaboration, the leftovers from the Chloé Spring-Summer 2022 Runway Show will be distributed to people in need.
Globally working on reducing their emissions, all remaining emissions will be compensated through a carbon offsetting project. Collaborating with climate consultancy EcoAct, this project helps to provide clean water to people in Ethiopia.
