There’s nothing quite like being curled up with a good book, alternating between flipping the pages and sipping on a hot cup of coffee, pastry forgotten on the table. Picture this: a bookstore or a library, that’s also a café. Just imagine the lingering smell of coffee wafting through the air mixed in with the scent of books, the quiet drone of people talking in the background, a perfectly lit ambience – sounds almost too good to be true. If you’ve grown tired of having to make your own drinks and reading at the same spot everyday, why not try something new and head over to the best book cafes in KL & Selangor?

Best Book Cafes in KL & Selangor

1. Orchid’s Library Cafe

You might recognise Orchid’s Library Cafe from Malaysian booktok – one of many TikTok’s niche topics. Owned and run by Tik Tok influencer Dayana, this book cafe is located at Jalan Gombak, Setapak. What we love most about this book cafe is that they encourage sharing a love for books with others, so if you donate three books to their library, you can get a free smoothie! If you’re feeling peckish, Orchid’s also offers a full menu of delicious yet low-calorie drinks and pastries, including waffles and cakes.

2. BookXcess

Cosy isn’t the best word to describe BookXcess, but this chain of bookstores is well known for having a huge variety of books, and there are plenty of corners to read at. Plus, some of their locations have on-site cafes, like at Tropicana Gardens Mall, Tamarind Square, and The Starling Mall. You’d also be surprised to know that a few of their locations, Tamarin Square included, are open 24-hours, so if you’ve got a penchant for cake and a good book at 3am, then head down over to BookXcess. However, it is a bookstore and not a library, so buying a book before you finish reading it it is highly encouraged.

3. Pages Book Cafe

Pages Book Cafe is a book cafe out of a romcom – it’s quaint, cosy, and has plenty of charm. We secretly always hope to have a meetcute with an avid reader who also plays guitar and rides motorbikes whenever we go here – but we digress. Besides their amazing book collection, they’ve also got a full-fledged menu of really interesting things, like Yellow Sticky Rice with Penang Style Chicken Curry, Chicken Pot Pie, and tons of really good bread. Don’t sleep on their drinks menu either; favourites include Hawthorn Goji Berry and Lemon Ranctcho, perfect on hot days.

One word to describe Jing-Si Books & Cafe: tranquil. Seriously, this places is basically a spa for your brain. What we love most about Lit Books is that they’re always hosting some sort of event, like book clubs and social gatherings, because there’s nothing quite like fangirling over a book with like-minded people – this is a safe space.
