With only seven months till the release of Avatar 2, dubbed Avatar: The Way of the Water, the teaser trailer for James Cameron’s sequel film is now available. Avatar, released in 2009, became the highest-grossing picture of all time, and its sequel appears to be just as spectacular. Former humans Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) are shown in the trailer happily in love after starting a family together.
But when an ancient menace resurfaces, they are compelled to abandon their home and explore new areas of the moon Pandora. What’s left for the Sullys though? Glitz has all the teas below.
The entire one-and-a-half minute teaser trailer contains almost no speech. “I know one thing for certain: wherever we go, this family is our fortress,” Jake tells Neytiri. Aside from that, the trailer is filled with stunning images of Pandora and other locales. Returning cast members include CCH Pounder as Mo’at, Giovanni Ribisi as Parker Selfridge, Joel David Moore as Norm Spellman, and Dileep Rao as Dr. Max Patel.
There are also new characters. In the trailer, Kate Winslet appears as Ronal, a Na’vi. Edie Falco plays RDA General Ardmore, Jermaine Clement plays marine biologist Dr. Ian Garvin, Cliff Curtis plays Tonowari, and Michelle Yeoh plays scientist Dr. Karina Mogue. Not to mention Oona Chaplin and Vin Diesel, who have also joined the franchise in unspecified roles.
The sequel film took so long to make because of the COVID pandemic. However, James had intended to release Avatar 2 as early as 2014, but work was repeatedly delayed until it finally began in 2017. The new film will now be released in theatres on December 16, 2022.
