Best Places to Cycle in Malaysia

1. Perdana Botanical Gardens

For a fun family activity, grab the kids and cycle over at Perdana Botanical Gardens! Established in 1888, it’s KL’s first large recreational park, and the pathways are very easy to navigate. It’s one of the best cycling routes in Malaysia as it has a flat terrain, gorgeous views, and plenty of places to pause at. Perdana Botanical Gardens is also home to a deer park, fountains, a lovely lake, and even a planetarium, so it’s a super scenic route. You can cycle, skate, jog, and even have a picnic after your workout.

2. TREX Bike Park

Zoom around with your friends and family at TREX Bike Park, a designated area in Puncak Alam where you can cycle to your heart’s content. The entire course spans across 2km, and there’s plenty of routes to explore. Choose the scenic route where the road is open and easy, or if you feel like you want something more challenging, go through the various obstacle courses. Fun for the whole family, this is definitely one of the best cycling routes in Malaysia.

3. TTDI Park

Also known as Bukit Kiara Park, TTDI Park has both easy and challenging trails. It has wide, open, and flat trails that are great for beginners or if you just want a relaxing ride through the park, and plenty of people will jog by, too. This park also has a trail that goes through the forest. Regular bicycles will not be suitable for the forest trail, as you’ll have to cycle on the dirt ground, and some areas can be a little steep, so you’ll need tyres that can hold more friction. One more thing: watch out for the monkeys.

4. Putrajaya Botanical Garden

One of the largest botanical gardens in Malaysia, Putrajaya Botanical Garden is a sprawling park that spans across 92 hectares of lush nature. Featuring more than 750 species of plants in a collection of 13 plant themes from across different continents, the gardens make for a really relaxing view while you ride your bike through the park. Not only that, this park is also divided into three separate areas, which are the Decorative Garden, Ethnobotany Park, and the Research and Rehabilitation area. It’s also home to the Moroccon Pavillion Islamic Garden, and the park even has bicycles to rent out for RM10 per hour.

5. The Central Park, Desa ParkCity

One of the best cycling routes in Malaysia is located right here in Desa ParkCity, where there’s tons of jogging and cycling paths that are lined with gorgeous trees. Besides that, this park also famously has beautiful grassy knolls to relax on and have a picnic, and with a beautiful lake to look at while you sip on tea, what’s not to love? It’s also a dog-friendly park, so bring your pooch to cycle around the lake! Try not to recreate that scene from the live action version of 101 Dalmations.

6. Kepong Botanic Gardens, FRIM

Although the Kepong Botanic Gardens was first developed to be the centre for living Malaysian plants, it has since grown to become an ideal location for people to hang out in nature. The Gardens’ paved roads make for one of the best cycling routes in Malaysia, and you’ll definitely feel one with nature as it has an ultra relaxing forest ambience. Admission is RM1 for both adults and children above 13 years old, but Malaysian students in uniform can enter without charge.

7. Taman Tasik Metropolitan Kepong

Taman Tasik Metropolitan Kepong, also known as Kepong Metropolitan Park or Taman Layang-Layang Metropolitan Kepong, is the biggest recreational park in KL, spanning across 218.8 ekar. The park boasts gorgeous green landscapes, playgrounds, and of course, a 3km trail where you can safely jog or cycle. It’s a favourite amongst families to spend the day having a picnic or to stroll around the lake. There’s even an amphitheatre where you can catch performances, as well as a field for a friendly game of football.
