Nestled in the northwestern part of Malaysia is Ipoh, the capital city of Perak, renowned for its impeccable cuisine, hidden tourist attractions, and century-old architecture. Touted as one of the best destinations in Asia to visit in 2016 by Lonely Planet, this city offers an array of exquisite local delights that will surely tantalize your taste buds. As a proud Perakian myself, I often find myself longing for the food from these top restaurants whenever I’m away from home. Take a peek at our curated list of the best food spots in Ipoh.

1. Nasi Ganja Ipoh

Topping our list of the best food spots in Ipoh is the highly loved Nasi Ganja Ipoh. Offering original nasi kandar, they offer several options of nasi ganja with chicken, fish, meat, squid, and lamb which are served with salted eggs and vegetables. Their dish and the curry complemented each other perfectly, trust me! Do note to come early before peak hours to avoid long queues.

One of my go-to food spots in Ipoh is Gerai Makanan Rahman Corner, which is located at Jalan Mustapha Al-Bakri. If you’re eating dinner late at night, pay a visit, and you will certainly be surprised. Their variety of menu items includes several selections of soups, rojak, pasembur, nasi goreng, mee goreng, and mee rebus. Personally, their teh tarik halia is one of the best that I have ever tried. Unlike other places, they use boiled ginger water instead of ginger powder.

6. Pakeeza Restaurant

Pakeeza Restaurant, which specialises in Mughlai cuisine, is the go-to place among locals. Their extensive menu ranges from aloo gobi to Kashmiri cheese naan, fish head curry, and mutton masala. Their curry dishes are absolutely lip-smacking, especially the curry fish head. Take it from me. I found the curry to be delicious, with a rich taste of spices and a balanced creaminess. Make sure to end your dining experience with their masala chai or Kashmiri tea.
