Yes, we’re really posting our what to watch in April 2025 list this late in the month. Think of it as our own little April Fool’s prank. But let’s be honest, if you’re someone who keeps up with the latest releases, you already know this month has been a goldmine for shows and movies. Fan-favourite series are making their return, and a handful of exciting original films have hit the big screen. If you haven’t already tuned in, here’s what you won’t want to miss.

What to Watch in April 2025

Best New Movies

A Minecraft Movie

Time to take your little siblings on a cinema outing — A Minecraft Movie, starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black, is now showing in theatres. This fantasy adventure, packed with laugh-out-loud moments, brings the exciting world of Minecraft to life, where the only limit is imagination. Follow Steve (Jack Black), Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Jason Momoa), and their ragtag crew as they race to stop the villainous Malgosha from finding the Orb of Dominance, stealing the Overworld’s gold, and wiping out creativity as we know it.

Sinners

No true movie lover would dare miss the highest-grossing original horror film of the decade, so grab your seats now for Sinners, directed by Ryan Coogler. Michael B. Jordan takes on dual roles as twin brothers returning to their hometown in 1932 Southern America — a setting heavy with racial tension, as expected from the time and place. What’s not expected? A sinister supernatural twist. As if navigating a deeply divided society wasn’t enough, the brothers soon find themselves facing nothing less than (spoiler alert!) vampires.

The Accountant 2

Remember 2016’s The Accountant, where Ben Affleck played Christian, an autistic accountant laundering money for the world’s deadliest criminals? He’s back this month in The Accountant 2, sharing the spotlight with his hitman younger brother Braxton, played by Jon Bernthal, who had a brief but memorable appearance in the first film. When we last saw the brothers, they’d gone from trading blows to promising a proper reunion, so it’ll be intriguing to see how their dynamic has evolved. Did we mention that they’re also wrapped up in a high-profile murder case while being hunted by some of the most lethal killers around?

Best New Series

Black Mirror Season 7

Netflix’s original series Black Mirror hardly needs an introduction, but just in case you’ve somehow missed it, here’s a quick one. The cult-favourite anthology explores the darker corners of human nature and our obsession with technology through standalone episodes that linger long after the credits roll. For its seventh season, the series bends its usual format, delivering not one but two sequels to earlier episodes, including a return to the Emmy-winning USS Callister from Season 4. Don’t forget to spot all your favourite actors in each episode!

Now streaming on Netflix.

The Last Of Us Season 2

The Last of Us is back with more post-apocalyptic thrills — think fungus-infected zombies, cutthroat survivors, and at the heart of it all, the deeply moving bond between Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey). If you thought last season was intense, brace yourself. This next chapter draws from The Last of Us Part II, the critically acclaimed video game known for its emotional gut punches and unforgettable storytelling. Fair warning: you might want to keep some tissues nearby.

New episodes are now streaming weekly on Max.

You Season 5

Joe Goldberg’s murderous antics finally come to an end with the fifth and final season of You. Once again, we follow Joe (played by Penn Badgley) as he spirals into an obsession with another unsuspecting young woman, committing unspeakable crimes to keep her within reach. This time, he’s back on the streets of New York, trying to outrun the consequences of his blood-soaked past. Now, it’s time to watch the hunter become the hunted.
