Love and happiness is in the air this year, as we celebrate Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day simultaneously. In celebration of the season of love and togetherness, Nobu Kuala Lumpur is presenting delectable feasts. With two specially curated menus for Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day, guests are in for a palate adventure. Glitz by Beauty Insider got the opportunity to try Nobu’s new offerings and we’re excited to share what we think about them with you! Let’s get started!

Nobu Style Fortune Platter

The Year of the Tiger gets off to a good start with the Nobu Style Fortune Platter, which features a pick of two sharing items. Sashimi Fortune Platter for RM188++ comes with slices of tuna, salmon, and botan ebi new style to match with freshly-made sour plum sauce, whose acidic overtones make for a delightful experience. The New Year’s ‘Nabemono’, which includes Wagyu Short Rib, Scallop, Sea Cucumber, and Foie Gras, is priced at RM288++. Both dishes are made to serve two people.

“Here at Nobu, we always strive to provide a gastronomical and unique experience for our guests through each of our menus and hospitality. The kitchen team has indeed worked very hard in preparing the perfect menu for guests to celebrate Chinese New Year, while still staying true to the Nobu Style. It is no doubt that we are very much looking forward to mark the beginning of the Year of the Tiger by welcoming our guests and treating them to an unforgettable experience with their loved ones with these specially curated menus in the name of unity and harmony”, said Executive Chef, Philip Leong.

Our say:

We thoroughly enjoyed both the Sashimi Fortune Platter and the New Year’s ‘Nabemono’. The Sashimi Fortune Platter was a lovely yee sang inspired dish that truly surprised us! We were expecting it to be a little on the sweeter side as we were accustomed to thinking. But the first bite exuded an intriguing smoky taste, followed by the slightest hint of tang. The sashimi featured here were fresh as ever and melted in our mouths. With a bit of everything, the flavours came to life – dancing on our tastebuds.

The New Year’s ‘Nabemono’ was another one of our favourites. It’s like a play-on Poon Choy, but with luxurious ingredients. The dish was perfectly made for two people and features succulent scallops and flavourful foie gras. As you dig into the hearty soup, you’ll find some seasonal mushrooms, torched tofu, and sea cucumber. But the highlight for us was the wagyu short rib that was tender as ever. The kombu and chicken stock broth on its own was lovely too.

You can get The Nobu Style Fortune Platter menu from 15th January – 11th February. Furthermore, you will be able to enjoy this on an ala carte basis.

Omakase Love Affair at Nobu

Valentine’s Day is a day when couples all over the world lavish extra attention on one another to commemorate their love. This year is no exception, as Nobu Kuala Lumpur has created a special six-course menu, Omakase Love Affair at Nobu, to celebrate the occasion.

The six-course menu begins with a delicate and gently-seared Tuna Tataki with Tofu Sauce that melts in the mouth; the perfect appetizer. The next dish on the menu is the signature Chef’s Sushi Selection comprising fresh cuts of Kampachi, Ebi, Salmon and Madai, specially selected by Head Sushi Chef Masa. Leading up to the hot dishes is the Steam Coral Grouper with Wasabi Corn Salsa and Umi Budo, which is also known as sea grapes that pops in your mouth with every bite to make for an exquisite dish. The highlight of the menu features a mouth-watering serving of Nobu’s signature Wagyu Sirloin with smoked black bean miso, pickled radish and carrot puree, as well as Mushroom Foie Gras Miso Soup. The delectable menu comes to a sweet end with the Yuzu Raspberry Tarte served with Jasmine Tea Jelly and Beetroot Sorbet.

Our say:

Every course from the first to the last truly radiated love. Attention to detail was evident in each plate. As the incorporation of pink and red elements to signify love puts this menu in the spotlight. The Tuna Tataki featured bits of dried miso and fragrant truffle oil, bringing it to a whole new level. The Steam Coral Grouper was soft and buttery while the sea grapes added a touch of texture. The wasabi corn salsa was also on the milder side which is perfect for those who can’t take spicy food.

The highlight for us, though, is the Wagyu Sirloin that was cooked to a perfect medium-rare. We were recommended to try the wagyu on its own, before adding a dollop of smoked black bean miso paste. The difference is interesting as the wagyu shines on its own but also pairs beautifully with the miso paste. But we definitely recommend adding the carrot puree to the mix. So you get a combination of salty, sweet, and smoky. The meal ended on a high with the Yuzu Raspberry Tarte. If you’re not a big fan of overly sweet desserts, this is for you. Not only is it stunning to look at, but the beetroot sorbet complements the tarte wonderfully.

The Omakase Love Affair at Nobu menu is priced at RM550++ per person. It is available only on 12th – 14th February.
