What we love about Chinese food is how it’s best served with many, especially our loved ones such as friends and family. In Malaysia, there are numerous chains of Chinese restaurants but today, we will be focusing on one in particular. They haven’t been in Malaysia for as long as others but this chain has already tented 9 outlets already? We are talking about Putien, the award-winning restaurant that is perfect to dine with family and friends, served by a menu that’s mouth-watering.

What Is Putien?

Putien is a multi-award-winning brand that began as a small coffee shop in Singapore and has now expanded to 25 locations in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan. Among my friends, Putien is a well-known family restaurant. A venue worth considering for a family gathering because of its consistent meal quality and classic Chinese dishes.

They specialise in Fujian Heng Hwa cuisine, and their history dates back to a coffee shop on Singapore’s Kitchener Road in the year 2000. In fact, the 2016 Michelin Guide Singapore awarded it one star, recognising the brand’s motto of “Fresh Ingredients, Original Taste.”

Must-Try At Putien

Being able to talk moderately in Chinese will be advantageous at the Putien stores in Malaysia. Otherwise, you may rely on the images of foods on the large menu, but the staff is prepared to provide recommendations based on your needs. Putian is famous for its abalone, which is a type of shellfish. Putien’s abalone for RM28.90 is particularly imported from Nanri Island, off the coast of Putian, to keep loyal to its heritage.

Even a simple-looking seaweed beginning at RM13.90 is the result of careful consideration and a lengthy procedure. Putien chooses high-quality, first-harvest seaweed that is farmed for only a week at a precise time of year when the weather and other factors combine to produce finer, smoother seaweed. With a rich, natural brininess and slivers of additional crispiness from South China Sea mini-shrimps.

Additionally, Putien treats all of its components with respect and care, from luxury abalone to lowly cockles. The iced abalone is a marvel of softness, with a firm bite that gives way to flavourful juiciness – and for RM28.90 per piece, it’s a steal. Cockles for RM13.90 are also a must-try, covered in a dense combination of garlic and chillies for spectacular sweet-savoury spiciness dynamics.
