McDonald’s Malaysia is ushering in the Year of the Tiger by celebrating Chinese New Year with elderly folks. On the 25th and 27th of January, McDonald’s Malaysia visited Rumah Charis and Sincere Care Home, respectively. The visits are part of McDonald’s and RMHC’s Program Komuniti. They aim to provide joy and ring in the ‘True Meaning of Prosperity’ at more than 170 old folks’ homes around the country.

Celebrating Chinese New Year With The Elderly

The restaurant crew will be engaging with the elderly at the old folks’ home with various activities. In addition, haircuts will be provided to ring in the new year, as part of McDonald’s DNA and in the spirit of unity. But that’s not all as the residents will also partake in traditional Chinese New Year activities. These include the Lion Dance and the Prosperity Toss (Yee Sang).

“McDonald’s has been organising visits to old folk’s homes since 2017 and giving back to our local communities who have supported us through thick and thin is embedded in the core values of the company. As we move forward to a new year and embrace the new normal, we remain committed to taking care of the elderly in the communities that we operate in. Our initiative aims to invoke the True Meaning of Prosperity and reminiscent of the prosperous memories of their youth and with their loved ones,” said Azmir Jaafar, Managing Director and Local Operating Partner of McDonald’s Malaysia.

“Although the Movement Control Order (MCO) restrictions have reduced, we are remaining vigilant and strictly adhere to COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to protect the vulnerable elderly community during our outreach efforts,” Azmir added.

A Yearly Tradition

This year’s efforts mark McDonald’s Malaysia’s sixth year of honouring and caring for the elderly during Chinese New Year, demonstrating McDonald’s belief in the ‘True Meaning of Prosperity,’ which emphasises the importance of connections with our loved ones.

McDonald’s community outreach programmes highlight the company’s dedication to making a good effect on society. Sponsorship of one million meals to the frontline and vulnerable communities, celebrating the birthdays of over 12,000 children at 400 orphanages nationwide through Program Komuniti, and distribution of three million Americano coffees to those who received vaccinations in support of Malaysia’s vaccination drive is among the notable community outreach programme milestones in 2021.
