What I learned before I turn 30

You know what they said about the roaring 20s? The supreme decade of your life where you constantly learn the truth behind the meaning of life, and develop your perspective at almost everything. As someone who is in her mid-twenties, I can confirm this. You think you’ve seen and experienced everything but here comes the Universe, presenting you yet another lesson, served on a silver platter.

In between fiscal crises, emotional trauma and hormonal shifts, your 20’s is where you’ll likely experience the roller coaster of life. But hey, as long as you manage to get yourself back up, you’ll be fine. That’s what I always tell myself. Pay attention to the green flags of life instead of the red ones. Count your blessings often. Journal your thoughts and declutter all negativity (including people who bring you nothing but migraines). You’ll become more confident and prefer spending time alone rather than out socialising.

The road to your 30’s is when the magical little light goes off. We can’t promise you that life will be easier but we can assure you that you’ll get better. Both physically and emotionally. Because our bodies and minds become hyper-aware of some major changes—rolling with the punches by nurturing, nourishing, and being gentle on ourselves!

Hormones

In their 30s, some women may suffer a decline in oestrogen, which can impact their sex desire and cause breakouts, bone density loss, and weight gain. Others may notice a decrease in muscle-building chemicals such as human growth hormone (HGH) and testosterone, which can also impede metabolism and contribute to weight gain, as well as other amusing symptoms such as small thick chin hairs, acne, brittle nails, and delayed hair development. The best we can do is nourish our hormones with a nutritious diet rich in healthy fats such as fatty fish, avocado, olive oil, and almonds.

On the other hand, some of these hormonal adjustments, along with our increased self-acceptance, can contribute to increased sexual desire and orgasm, making our 30s and even 40s a spicy period in our sexual prime.

Mood

Our thirties are a period when we can appreciate our youth. We’re still young, and the world is our oyster, but the fraction dilemma is weighing on us. It’s a time of reflection, huge decisions, financial decisions, spending, saving, and laying the groundwork for the rest of our life, and it weighs heavy on us. That’s why we millennials in our 30s appear to be in a state of worry.

According to a BBC poll, the feared “mid-life crisis” is occurring sooner. It’s critical to incorporate mindfulness into our daily lives as soon as possible, and the younger we start, the better. These are behaviours that educate our brain and help to avoid crises from occurring in the first place. But believe us when we say that 30 is a young age. It’s a state of mind.

Metabolism

According to science, our metabolism declines practically directly with age. It is because of our skeletal musculature. It’s also linked to hormones. As a result, when our oestrogen levels, among other critical hormones, begin to fall, we lose both bone density and muscle mass. As we lose muscle and bone mass, we gain fat, and this fat-to-body-mass ratio causes a drop in basal metabolic rate.

If you want to take care of yourself in the long run, nutrition and exercise are essential. A nutritionist can help you figure out which meals are best for particular hormones, and different types of exercise are better at different phases of our lives. As we age, it is critical to begin adding greater weight exercise to counteract muscle and bone loss—this is the best strategy to maintain an ageing metabolism.

Skin

Our skin’s collagen synthesis diminishes once we reach our lovely, yet underappreciated, twenties. Collagen is crucial for our skin’s elasticity and resilience, which is why drooping skin and wrinkles are signs of ageing. Consider collagen to be the plump rebar or structure of our skin.

However, not all hope is gone at once. While we can’t keep up with the youngins and new meme kicks in every week, we can help build up some collagen synthesis by eating a balanced diet, drinking alcohol in moderation, avoiding cigarettes, and raising our vitamin C intake. Because vitamin C is one of the building blocks of collagen, a diet high in C will boost collagen production even in our golden years.
