Known for their insanely good cookies and brownies, this bakery takes classic desserts and turns them into something unforgettable. We had the chance to chat with the founder of Little Dipper, Hermana, about the inspiration behind the brand, the secret to a perfect bite, and why these treats are worth every indulgence.
Our Interview with the Founder of Little Dipper


What inspired the creation of Little Dipper, and how did the journey into artisanal cookies and brownies begin?
Little Dipper was born from a deep love for baking, sparked by my mother and nurtured by my family. She introduced me to the magic of baking, passing down not just recipes but the joy of creating with my hands. But it was my family — especially my late father and his siblings — who truly set me on this path. They have the biggest sweet tooths and baking for them in my early teens became a tradition filled with honest critiques and unwavering encouragement, pushing me to refine my craft. Baking was never just about making sweets; it was about the moments around the table, the laughter, the eager first bite, and making someone’s day a little better.
Cookies and brownies are simple, and you can find them anywhere. But that’s where I hope Little Dipper stands out. We’re cutting out the fluff and bringing back what cookies and brownies should be. The perfect cookie should be gooey in the center, crisp on the edges, and made with quality ingredients. And the brownie? Always fudgy, never cakey. I wanted every bite to feel indulgent yet familiar — artisanal, but never overcomplicated.
We love the whimsicality of the name Little Dipper — what’s the story behind it?
The name was inspired by the Little Dipper constellation, something small yet significant, a guiding light in the night sky. I loved the idea of a bakery that leaves a lasting impression in its own way. It also has a fun little double meaning, because I spent many childhood days dipping cookies in milk. I wanted to bring that same concept but with our brownies and cookies dipped in our homemade sauces and, of course, milk. There’s something so nostalgic and comforting about that simple act, and I wanted the name to reflect the playful yet elevated feel of the brand.
Little Dipper doesn’t just offer sweet treats but also sweet experiences like Pancakes on the Balcony! What inspired this concept, and what makes it such a special experience?
Pancakes on the Balcony was born from a love of slow mornings, good food, and meaningful moments. There’s something incredibly special about stepping away from the rush of daily life and taking the time to enjoy a meal somewhere peaceful. Nestled in a little enclave in Bukit Tunku, surrounded by nature, the setting itself invites you to slow down, breathe, and truly be present.
With so many cafes and restaurants out there, it’s easy to walk away with a hefty bill and a meal that doesn’t quite live up to expectations. We wanted to create something different — an experience where you know the meal will be excellent, where you’re not just grabbing a quick bite but actually sitting down, unwinding, and sharing a proper conversation with someone. And what better way to do that than over all-you-can-eat, made-to-order pancakes?
Here, it’s about putting your phone away, being in the moment, and fully experiencing your food. It’s about laughter, connection, and those little pauses in life that make all the difference. The pancakes might be the highlight, but it’s the atmosphere, the view, the company, and the feeling of time slowing down that make it an experience worth savouring. That’s what makes it more than just a meal — it’s an experience.
Congratulations on Little Dipper being part of the launch party for the new Hyatt Centric City Centre Kuala Lumpur! How does it feel to be involved in such an exciting event?
Thank you! It was such an incredible experience. Hyatt Centric embodies a modern, stylish take on hospitality, making it the perfect match for Little Dipper, where we strive to deliver the same level of thoughtful quality with a fun, contemporary twist. As a newcomer to KL’s dessert scene, this was my first public exposure, and I won’t lie — it was a little nerve-wracking! But I trust my desserts, and I know that even if I fumble or get a little awkward (which definitely happens haha), the cookies and brownies will speak for themselves.
Being part of the launch was truly an honour. Seeing people enjoy our treats in such a lively setting was so rewarding, and getting to connect with others who appreciate the craft and experience behind great food made it even more special.
Can you tell us more about your other signature flavours for cookies and brownies and what makes them stand out?
At Little Dipper, we believe in perfecting the classics. Rather than chasing trends or overloading the menu with countless variations, our focus is on crafting the ultimate cookie and brownie — ones that don’t need elaborate add-ons to shine. Not to toot my own horn, but one bite is all it takes to understand why.
Take our brownie. At first glance, it may seem like a simple treat, but it’s anything but ordinary. Every element, from ingredients to technique, is carefully considered. We use grass-fed butter, Belgian chocolate, muscovado sugar, organic eggs, and premium flour — without a single sprinkle of cocoa powder in sight. These brownies are pure, deep chocolate. Chilled, they have the richness of a truffle; warm, they melt into a fudgy bite with a perfectly crackly top. Flakes of Maldon sea salt create just the right contrast. Picture it: a crisp chocolate crust giving way to a dense, velvety center that crumbles into the perfect blend of sweetness and a whisper of salt.
Our cookie is just as much of a masterpiece. Crisp edges offer the right amount of crunch, while the thick, gooey center overflows with molten chocolate. A hint of salt cuts through the richness, balancing each bite. Achieving that perfection didn’t happen by chance—it’s the result of meticulous testing, an understanding of how ingredients interact, and a passion for the details. Our brownie batter is mixed and baked to enhance its signature crust while keeping the interior irresistibly fudgy. Our cookie dough is rested to deepen flavours, ensuring a depth that can’t be rushed.
The beauty of these treats lies in their simplicity, but behind that simplicity is an obsession with getting every element just right.
With the rise of conscious eating, would you consider adding options for dietary preferences, such as gluten-free or vegan treats?
Definitely! I think it’s important to be inclusive and make sure that everyone gets to experience really good desserts, regardless of dietary restrictions. While our core focus is on perfecting classic flavours, I’ve been working on developing gluten-free and vegan options that don’t compromise on texture or taste.
For me, it’s not just about making an alternative version, it has to be just as good as the original. Once I have recipes that meet that standard, I’d love to add them to our lineup!
What has been the biggest challenge in running an artisanal dessert brand, and how have you overcome it?


One of the biggest challenges has been balancing small-batch quality with growing demand. Everything we make is crafted with care, precision, and the best ingredients, so scaling up without compromising on that has been a learning curve.
Another challenge has been standing out in a crowded online market. Before Little Dipper, content creation and social media marketing were completely foreign to me — I only made my first reel when I started the brand! Learning and adapting to the digital space has been a journey, and I wish I could say I’ve mastered it, but the truth is, it’s still a work in progress. Thankfully, my friends have been a huge help, from guiding me through the art of making reels to assisting with photos and videos. The food scene, especially desserts, is incredibly competitive, so my focus is on creating an experience that feels unique.
It’s not just about selling cookies and brownies; it’s about building a brand people connect with. Whether it’s through playful-yet-premium branding, creative experiences like Pancakes on the Balcony, or fun, engaging content, I want Little Dipper to feel special.
Any cool collaborations or projects in the works that we should be excited about?
We’ve got some exciting collaborations in the works, and I can’t wait to share them! We’re teaming up with local businesses and eateries to create something truly special — think exclusive flavours, limited-edition desserts, and new ways to push the boundaries of what Little Dipper can offer.
We’ve also recently introduced personalised brownies, adding a fun and thoughtful twist to our classic treats. Whether it’s a cheeky inside joke, a heartfelt message, or even an edible print, these brownies make the perfect wedding favors, corporate gifts, or just a sweet way to brighten someone’s day.
And this is just the beginning! We’re always dreaming up new ways to bring people together through food, and I can’t wait for what’s next.
