The top Langkawi islands are ideal for exploring the landmass’s diverse nature. With over 100 islands in the Andaman Sea, you’ll be spoiled for options when it comes to island hopping throughout your vacation. While the majority of them remain deserted, a handful have been allocated for the tourist industry so that travellers from across the world may experience and enjoy Langkawi’s unique beauty.

Due note that most island-hopping trips depart from Langkawi’s main island. And because the waves grow turbulent during the rainy season, most tours halt their marine activities from July until mid-September. So we suggest you double check the weather before you make travel plans.

Below, Glitz is presenting you with all the information you need and best spots you should definitely visit the next time you visit Langkawi Island.

What Are The Best Time To Start Island Hopping?

Morning and sunset hours are ideal for island hopping in Langkawi. You may begin your day with a peaceful drive through the coastal jungle. Prepare for the most gorgeous boat ride to the wetlands, where you will be greeted by a variety of vegetation and mangrove trees. Tourists and locals can even continue their voyage by discovering waves that are studded with unbelievable formations of sandstone carved by nature’s hands.

When it comes to nightfall, no other area can provide you with the opportunity to see the golden hours as you stare up into the sky and observe those yellowish and golden coverings around the eventually spectacular skylines.

What To Expect From Island Hopping?

Langkawi Island, located 30 kilometres off the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia, is recognised for its stunning features, aquatic activities, and different boat cruises. Island Hopping is one of the biggest mud participation adventures when you touch down on the island.

Begin with a hotel pickup from where you stay and straight away travel to your next journey. Your first stop is usually the Pulau Dayang Bunting, which is home to the second biggest beach in Langkawi’s 99-island grouping. Here, you may enjoy a relaxing  swimming session, do paddle boarding, or rest at a local catfish spa.

Next, continue your adventure by seeing eagles from the vessel at Big Lions Island, and then continue on to Pulau Beras Basah, in which you might relax on the beautiful sandy beach or participate in a range of sports such as snorkelling and swimming before returning to the dock and your accommodation. This island is also duty-free, so you can shop until you drop.

If you wish to do more island hopping, you may kindly request to do so. Check out the list below and decide which island you would like to drop by.

Island Hopping Spots In Langkawi

1. Pulau Beras Basah

Pulau Beras Basah is located just 25km southwest of Kuah. This island features swaying palm trees, clear blue water and sandy beaches. With a mountainous background, it is quite popular among tourists. Sadly though, it is still quite underdeveloped as it doesn’t feature accommodations and only has a few washrooms.

2. Pulau Bumbon

With just a 10-minute boat ride from Kuah jetty, you’ll be able to visit Pulau Bumbon. With peaceful and pleasant beaches all around, who wouldn’t love visiting Pulau Bumbon? If you are one to love the secluded quietness, this is the perfect getaway for you.

3. Pulau Dayang Bunting

One of the second largest islands in Langkawi is Pulau Dayang Bunting. In English, its name means ‘Isle of the Pregnant Maiden’ as it resembles the shape of an expectant mother. The whole island is covered in verdant rainforest and has a large lake too. The lake is believed to ‘grant barren women fertility’. If you want to go for a swim, you can rent lifejackets for both kids and novice swimmers. Feeling adventurous? Check out Gua Langsir, a cave that is home to thousands of bats! Since this island lacks accommodation, it is great for island hopping as you stay in Langkawi.

4. Pulau Payar Marine Park

Get on a speedboat and go island hopping to Pulau Payar Marine Park! This is a popular site for those that want to try snorkelling or diving. Besides that, it is only 45-minutes away from Kuah Jetty. Furthermore, this marine park features 4 islands spread across 2 nautical miles. Pulau Payar is the largest and the others are respectively called Pulau Lembu, Pulau Segantang and Pulau Kaca. But, you should note that these islands are uninhabited and strictly regulated by Kedah’s Fisheries Department. This is to help protect their natural landscapes.

5. Pulau Singa Besar

Go island hopping on the island of the big lion! Just kidding, that was just the literal translation of Pulau Singa Besar. Although the island isn’t as big as its name suggests, or even houses lions for that matter, it is an island with a big heart. Pulau Singa Besar is a wildlife sanctuary for deer, snakes, monkeys, birds and lizards. Aside from that, this island in Langkawi also has several unique mangrove plants and rock formations. Although there is no accommodation here, you can request to camp overnight with the local government!

6. Pulau Tuba

Distinctively different from the instrument tuba, Pulau Tuba is home to a group of traditional fishermen. Remote and beautiful, it is one of the few underdeveloped islands around Langkawi. But, this just adds to the island experience as you go island hopping in Langkawi. Explore all the different islands surrounding Langkawi. You can either choose to stay in a small room within the resort, or in the village’s homestay programme. If you are a fan of jungle trekking and bird watching, hop on over to Pulau Tuba.

7. Rebak Island

Rebak Island is a very short boat ride away from Langkawi. It is home to the exclusive Vivanta by Taj Rebak Island, which is part of the Taj Hotels, Resorts and Palaces international hotel chain. So for couples looking for a little alone time, this spot is a great romantic and secluded getaway.
