Once you’ve figured out how to get beyond the innocent exterior, you’ll discover a sleek cocktail bar created by four of Asia’s greatest bartenders, including one from Singapore’s Nutmeg & Clove, that offers both classic and South-East Asian-inspired drinks. The instant images are yours to keep to remember your night — this is one-night location where the beverages are only half the pleasure.

Salon Du Japonisant, opened by Bacchus Global, a well-known importer of quality Japanese alcohol for the Thailand bar scene, is the place to go for a voyage into the world of Japanese spirits. This store, hidden behind an unmarked door on the corner of Soi 39, is meant to create a warm, even domestic atmosphere as if you were walking into an upmarket pseudo-retro Japanese house. Start your night with a variety of Suntory, sake, and other Japanese liquors before moving on to cocktails made with these premium spirits. Choose a lighter Suntory Chita Old-Fashioned with a touch of green tea bitters and kuromitsu to sweeten, or a Japanese Mojito with shochu and lime.

Havana elevates the speakeasy experience to new heights. Its entrance is totally unmarked, with just a graffiti-ed phone booth visible. It is set on a colourful mural-painted concrete wall. Step inside, dial Havana for the day’s passcode and enter it to unlock the rear of the booth’s fake door.

Havana takes you to pre-revolutionary Cuba in the 1940s with tiled floors, mismatched old furniture, and towering bar stools. For a traditional Bacardi-and-coke combination, order a plate of empanadas or a Cuban sandwich, and for bar snacks, choose a spicy kaffir lime-spiked Cuba Libre. Don’t miss the live Cuban jazz band on Friday and Saturday nights in Havana!

8. The WoodShed

With the addition of a craft spirits bar buried inside its area, the rustic farmhouse-style harvest restaurant takes on a new look. The Woodshed, as the name suggests, is decked out in wood and exposed lighting, with a carefully picked selection of artisan spirits and liquors that begin in their cocktails. Their latest flower-adorned Fleur mixes two gins – Rock Rose winter gin and Pimm’s No. 1 – with green chartreuse, fruit shrub, and lemon juice for a cocktail that blends all four seasons. The Smoke Lingers, on the other hand, is a strong wake-up call made with Laphroaig 10-Year-Old single malt, tequila, espresso, and burned walnut.
